Grad School Auditions Done!
Hello everyone!
I had my final grad school auditions of the year yesterday!
I had the absolute worst morning yesterday! There was a water main break that ended up affecting ALL the trains I take, but no announcements were made or anything. I eventually figured out what was happening, but by the time my husband ordered my Uber I was running so late. I arrived with two minutes to spare. I was put in line as soon as I arrived with no time to relax or prepare or anything. I did the best I could, but certainly not the impression I wanted to make.
In the end, two schools called me back for an interview. I also ended up auditioning for USC on a whim since they were auditioning and had walk in slots available. USC was actually my dream undergrad school, but financially I couldn’t do it...
The schools that called me in were Kent State University and California State University Long Beach. I looked up the programs before going in for the interviews to get more familiar with them. Initially, I was disappointed as both schools only offer an MFA in pedagogy. Essentially the programs give you the tools to become teachers, but not necessarily working actors. It doesn’t mean these programs are bad by any means, just not what I was looking for.
After talking to the Long Beach recruiter though, I got kind of excited! The program does all sorts of outreach programs within the community and the reason Hugh, the head of the department, called me back was because he hopes to see more diversity in acting teachers one day. He gave me a lot to think about. I’m still waiting to hear back from USC as they have their own callbacks in LA!
My husband and I are both feeling under the weather, so we had some sopita for dinner. Today was also the last day of the 2020 challenge.
Also just sent in a last minute application to SCAD. I would love to go to Atlanta as there’s a shortage of Latinx actors down there. This is close enough so that I can start the process. It’s a good school as well.
