Busy Week & Grad School Number One

Hello everyone!

For those of you that know me, you know that I like to keep busy! Well, this week has been incredibly busy!!

So, on Sunday I continued my grad school practice with Grad School Bootcamp Day 2 followed immediately after with a different grad school practice with Karen Kohlhaas. Yup, two practices in one day! Since, I can’t afford an acting coach, I jumped on the opportunity to practice in any way that I could. I’m happy to say it paid off! More on that later.

Well, on Monday I had an audition for. Valentine’s Day variety show! I have yet to hear back, so I don’t think I got it. I did have a chance to read two scenes from an unpublished play that’s currently being workshopped with The Playground Experiment.

They haven’t uploaded pictures from this week’s volume yet, but here’s the last time I participated. Many thanks to my friend Francesca for introducing me to this organization!

This week I also did SP work for the second time! SP stands for Standardized Patient. You get paid to act as a patient at medical schools allowing future doctors to learn how to interact with people. It’s fun!

I had my first grad school audition today which was for the University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program (that’s my friend/former bridesmaid Klarissa in the picture!). I was successful in that I didn’t let my nerves get in the way and I’m proud of everything I did in that room. Unfortunately, I did not get a callback so of course I’m bummed about that!

Final round of auditions is this Sunday! This time it’ll be the URTAs, which consist of a bunch of grad schools in one room and after everyone is done auditioning, you receive notification of which ones want to call you back!

The last time I did the URTAs was back in 2014 and I actually got accepted into two programs at that point. I was accepted into the Academy of Art’s class of 2017 grad program, but it was way too expensive. I knew I could pay with loans, but I did not want to graduate with thousands of dollars in debt especially with a career as unpredictable as mine. I also got accepted into the Portland Actor Conservatory! I wouldn’t have minded going as I absolutely love Portland, Oregon, but they didn’t offer much in financial aid and they have no housing so I would have had to rent an apartment while spending all my time in class and not working.

My husband surprised me with this beautiful bouquet of flowers. He’s the best!

He also said that since we’ve been really good (and we have!) he wanted us to have a cheat meal to celebrate my audition. I was craving French fries so that was the main reason I got this.

I also had a ginger ale because I don’t like anything else except water.

We watched “Vivir Dos Veces” on Netflix while eating dinner. It was good. So good.

That was my week! I know next week won’t be this busy, but that’s okay. I’m obviously still bummed about not getting a callback, but emotionally I’m doing okay! This industry can start weighing you down, but today I’m fine!

What else do you want to see me talk about?

Lluvia
