Top 5 Things I’m Most Looking Forward to Doing Once This is Over

I think it’s safe to say we’re all having a hard time staying indoors throughout all of this. This pandemic has changed our lives, but we have a lot to look forward to once all of this is done. For now, stay home and protect those who can’t!

Of course there are those who are stubbornly putting their wants above all else. Those people will quickly realize that this is not a joke.

The sooner all of us obey, the sooner we get to go back to normal. Anyway! I’ve been keeping busy and relaxing all at the same time.

If you’re obeying the stay at home orders we have a lot to look forward to, and here are the things I’m excited to do again!

1. Go to the Cinema

I have always loved going to the movies! My mom instilled a love for the cinema in me. When we lived in El Paso, Orlando and I always did dollar movie Tuesdays. We showed up at Movie One and watched whatever was next. It was fun because we never knew what we were going to get! In New York we don’t have that luxury as it’s expensive to go to the movies, so when we go we watch something we genuinely want to see to make it worth our while! I’m also looking forward to watching free movies in the park.

2. Theatre shows

I mean... Orlando and I are both blessed with our abilities to watch as many Broadway and Off Broadway shows that we do.

Seriously though, I love watching shows as much as I love watching films! Unfortunately some shows have already announced that they’re not coming back once Broadway reopens. These shows (minus Beetlejuice) were in previews and never got to officially open. There are still plenty of shows that are set to reopen that I hope I get to watch.

I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll get to watch “Six”.

3. Collaborating

I miss rehearsing. I miss working on shows! I’m blessed that I’m getting do that during these times, but it’s not the same doing it all virtually.

If you haven’t heard the good news, I’m now an ensemble member for Rising Sun Performance Company. We have so many things already in the work for the upcoming year!

I’m looking forward to rehearsing and creating a character again! I’m ready to talk to other actors and casting directors at auditions again. I miss that.

I don’t know how much I can say, but as soon as Rising Sun projects get announced, I’ll share them as well.

4. Bookstores/Libraries

I miss checking out physical books from the library. I also miss browsing bookstores.

Books have always been a huge part of my life. My mom also instilled this love in me. I’m huge supporter of libraries and independent bookstores.

I’m not opposed to corporate bookstores, but New York is brimming independent bookstores that I would much rather support.

5. Themed Get Togethers

Before I left to New York, I used to have these all the time. I would read a book, then invite people over to watch the film adaptation! It was my version of a book club since no one else enjoyed reading as much as I do. I also enjoy comparing books to their film adaptions so it was an absolute blast for me.

Our film watching parties were themed based on what we were watching. We would make dinner and/or snacks that we would eat while watching the movie and then play games to end the night!

When we watched Dracula, I made a three course vampire inspired meal. Alice in Wonderland came with “eat me” cookies. Harry Potter always included a wizard snack and Harry Potter Scene It? For “The Book Thief” we made s’mores and told stories around a makeshift campfire.

Those are what I’m looking forward to, and I will be able to do all this in the future.

This won’t last forever. The best thing we can do is stay home and flatten that curve. It sucks not being able to do anything, but the longer we take to comply, the longer these social distancing measures will be in place. There are also plenty of essential workers who have no option but to possibly be exposed to the virus. So, for them and those who are more vulnerable to the disease stay home!

Don’t forget to wash your hands either! 🧼
